In the off-season, Lorraine's is closed 2-5p. City Hall is closed Saturday and probably Sundays. Everyone is super-friendly; somebody gave us a 2-minute ride on their golf cart to the only open eatery, and the owner got us face-to-face with the keeper of the stamp. We had two choices: wait 2hrs for the stamp or depart. (Sunset was at 445p) We chose to depart. Also, importantly: THERE IS NO CELL SERVICE on Tangier Island. Cancel IFR in the air!

The runway was recently crack sealed and the apron replaced--the condition is really fine. The runway is a little wavy: you'll want to practice your soft field takeoff/landing despite the asphalt. The whole island works on a season: Memorial Day to Labor Day. (May-Sept) Seemingly, no business lists their off-season hours online, but if you're planning on getting your Virginia Aviation Passport: it's available at two locations: Lorraine's & City Hall.

Good destination for some "$100 seafood" went last week and Rob the airport manager and local inn owner gave us a ride back to the airport. Told me the wind sensor should be fixed soon and they are getting runway crack sealed and new blacktop on the apron this week. He is lobbying the state to get the runway repaved in 2 years while the state is on the island for road paving. Bumpy runway, fine people. Bring $10 cash for transients parking fee.
