August 30, 2021Approached out of the South East, used Black Marble mountain as my TOD. Descended through the valley over flying Sulfur Springs Campground, which puts you on a 45 entry to the left downwind of 22. I personally would not want to land 04 but take the time in the downwind to look at the wind sock for best wind. Should you for whatever reason try to land 04 make a 360 over the town of Happy Camp to join a right downwind for 04, remember slower speeds make tighter turns. When landing note that the field is not well maintained and has grass and weeds taking over the runway. Also low wing aircraft beware, bushes have encroached on the taxiway so it’d be best to taxi back on the runway. When parking know that the only thing there is a CalFire outpost so make friends with them and they might let you relax in the AC and use their bathroom. I wouldn’t recommend this airport unless it’s necessary, probably won’t be going back.
